Our First "Cohort" Program for Maker Educators
Apply today to connect with other maker educators
One thing we’ve heard from maker educators is that they want more opportunities to work with and learn from other maker educators. Last week, I spoke to an educator who said that five years ago, it had been easier to connect on Twitter and other social media. It’s harder today, this person said, to find and meet other maker educators.
We’d like to do something about that by creating one or more cohorts of maker educators who will meeting monthly in a video conference to share ideas and also to help each other with a project that an educator wants to work on. The goal is to create a support group of no more than ten people that can provide encouragement, technical assistance, and feedback on your work.
Are you a maker educator, STEAM coordinator or a classroom teacher with a focus on hands-on projects and have an idea or project you would like to develop? At the start of the cohort program, you will have an opportunity to share your project and then provide provide updates throughout the school year.
Examples of types of projects:
Setting up a makerspace in your school or community
Creating a community-based project
Building your own electronic or robotic project
Writing or revising new maker curriculumÂ
Training other educators in maker educators
Developing assessments and portfolios.
Or tell us what you want to work on.
How to apply:
You must be actively involved in maker education in a school or through an informal setting such as a museum or afterschool program.
You must be willing to meet by Zoom at least 4 of the 6 meetings. Meetings will be scheduled around mutually convenient times for teachers in each group. Â
If you complete your project, you will be invited to present it at the 2025 MakerEd Educators Forum, a virtual conference for maker educators.

Maker Faire Bay Area this weekend
I wrote last week about what you might want to find at Maker Faire Bay Area this weekend. I should have added that Godwyn Morris will be on site as well, representing MakerEd. So stop by and say hi to her.
